Sophia Jenny

Sophia Jenny is an Auckland-based visual artist working with cyanotype. Her art reflects themes of natural and human beauty, and the spiritual condition. She aims to elicit positive emotional responses of happiness, joy, and freedom in people, and to help anchor them in, what often feels like, a chaotic and unraveling world. She is highly motivated by capturing the generous present moment and the omnipresent beauty of life.

“I love the sun, and I’m fascinated by the unique qualities and possibilities of cyanotype as an art-form. It’s the perfect medium for combining my skills as a photographer with my passion for contemporary art.”

The Process

Cyanotype is a photographic process invented in the 1800s. It uses a mixture of light sensitive compounds, which exposed to UV light and washed in water, oxidise to create these gorgeous Prussian Blue images.

It's romantically unpredictable with many variable elements. This makes each hand printed cyanotype unique with their own special properties.
